Erica Lockwell
Librarian & Educator
I am a librarian and educator with a background in art and archaeology, and a deep investment in the spaces where learning happens.
I work in school libraries, where I think a lot about how to make a room feel like it belongs to the people in it. I care about finding the right entry point for each person, whether that means a different kind of scaffold, a well-timed recommendation, or just being genuinely excited about what they're working on. I believe research is a creative act, and I try to teach it that way
Artistic Pursuits
I am also an artist, illustrator, and aspiring picture book author. My work is warm and playful, inspired by all the creatures that surround me. I am particularly interested in depicting hidden or overlooked worlds, whether that be in the vegetal richness of a forest or the built landscape of a suburb. I love bold earthy colors, plenty of texture, and scribbly expressive lines.
I aim to lead with curiosity and compassion, and want to work on stories that highlight radical self-acceptance while not losing sight of the profound importance of play, humor, and fun.
